Cardiology is the medical speciality that deals with the disgnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the heart and other components of the circukatory system.

    Summary of professional career

    • Guest Lecturer in Medical Pathology (chair responsible for teaching Cardiology) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto from Oct 1988 to June 1996.
    • Head of the Cardiology Service at the Hospital Militar do Porto from February 1991 to August 1999, from which time he devoted himself to private cardiology practice, which he continues to do today.
    • From 1995 to the present, at the Centre for Medical Imaging
      Centre (CIMC), he has collaborated in the execution/interpretation of
      myocardial perfusion scintigraphy.
    • He was a member of the Secretariat of: Cardiovascular Therapeutics Study Groups (2 terms), Cardiovascular Risk (2 terms), Coordinating Centre of the Portuguese Council for the Practice of Cardiology (CPPC) of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (SPC).
    • Northern Regional Secretary of the Board of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (2005/7), with Prof Cassiano Abreu Lima as President.
    • For 3 terms (9 years) he was a member of the board of the College of
      Speciality of Cardiology of the Portuguese Medical Association (Presidents: Drs Correia da Cunha, Rui Cruz Ferreira and Mariano Pego).
    • Member of the Organising Committee of Portuguese Cardiology Congresses and an active participant as an expert in the evaluation of
      (also in the present), lecturer and moderator.
    • He was a national reviewer (appointed by the SPC) of the
      European Society of Cardiology Guidelines on cardiovascular assessment in non-cardiac surgery (2014).
